Facing the future – employment prospects for young people after coronavirus

Webinar | Tuesday 20 April 2021 | 2.00 – 3.15pm

The coronavirus pandemic has hit young people hardest. Young people are more likely to have been furloughed, 16–24-year-olds account for three in five of all jobs lost since the start of the pandemic, and youth unemployment is three times the overall unemployment rate.
Evidence suggests that a period of youth unemployment can have corrosive and long-lasting impacts on young people, leading to lower employment and lower earnings for years to come.
This Learning and Work Institute and Prince’s Trust event will welcome keynote addresses from Rt. Hon Damian Hinds MP, former Employment Minister and Secretary of State for Education and Rt. Hon Stephen Timms MP, Chair, Work and Pensions Committee. We will explore the findings of new research into the employment prospects of young people after coronavirus and for the first time set out the economic and fiscal costs of higher youth unemployment post-coronavirus.
