Wave 4 Skills Bootcamps Funding Opportunity

Posted on behalf of Anthea Pratt, North East LEP.

The North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) was awarded a grant of £2.4m as part of the Department for Education Wave 3 Skills Bootcamps programme. Commencing in July 2022, the LEP has been testing a Green Skills Bootcamp delivery model through a partnership of 9 training organisations, FE colleges and employers with a target of upskilling 800 individuals in Green Skills by the end of March 2023.

Skills Bootcamps are part of the National Skills Fund, a £2.5 billion government initiative to help adults to gain the skills that are sought by employers and support the economy. They offer free courses for adults typically lasting up to 16 weeks, available across a range of sectors. They help people develop priority skills that are in demand at both a local and national level.

Significant investment has been committed by the government to scale up Skills Bootcamps from 2022 to 2025 and last week LEPs and Combined Authorities were invited to submit grant proposals to deliver Wave 4 Skills Bootcamps. The North East LEP is developing a grant proposal to be submitted by 30th November 2022, extending the current Green Skills Bootcamp programme and expanding to cover the additional sectors prioritised by Department for Education Skills Bootcamps (

To support the development of the North East LEP’s grant proposal, we are inviting interested FE colleges, HE institutions, independent training providers and employers to a Wave 4 Skills Bootcamp information session on 10th November 2022 16:00 – 17:00.
